As a Regular User, Can I have a "Home Page"?
It is possible for you to publish a web page or photos using the Webmail Interface. To utilize this interface follow these instructions
1) Login to Webmail at webmail.htc.net, and when prompted provide your email address and password.
2) Once logged in, select the "Filestore" link on the menu on the left side of the screen. Here you upload files to be stored on the server.
3) If you wish to share these files with other people, make sure that you upload the files to the "Shared" folder on the filestore. Please note that your filestore shares the same 50MB quota that your email account has, and uploading too many files to your filestore can result in the inability to receive emails.

How do I copy an entire web document?
To quickly select the entire contents of a Web document, press Ctrl-A, from there, you can press Ctrl-C to copy it to the clipboard. Keep in mind, however, that many Web pages contain a lot of text and graphics.
Where can I obtain updated drivers for my computer hardware?
A "driver" is just a scrap of code that controls a device. It ensures communication between your system software and computer components. Sometimes, especially in the wake of a big change to your computer, these drivers need to be updated. In addition to manufacturers' Web sites, many drivers are available directly from the larger shareware repositories.
How do I bookmark a file?
To bookmark a local file, just type the full path name (such as c:/mystuff/mydoc.txt) into the Location box and then choose Bookmarks, Add to Bookmarks (or quicker still, press Ctrl-D).
What is the Cache area and how do I clear it?
Your cache (pronounced "cash") is an area on your hard drive where your browser stores pages and graphics of web sites you have visited. The good news is, pages load faster from your hard disk faster than pulling them through the Internet. The bad news is, the more pages that end up on your hard disk, the more space they eat up, which causes our system to run slower. Another reason you need to clear out your cache periodically is you may not be viewing the most recent version of a site that changes frequently. For example, the contents of postnet.com change daily, with many features updating several times a day. If you notice that you are not viewing the current edition of postnet.com, the page has most likely loaded from your cache. If you are using Internet Explorer, you can hold down the Shift key and click on the "Refresh" tab at the top of your screen. If you are using Netscape, click on the "Reload" tab. After you do this, you should see the most recent version of the site.

How can I protect my computer system from outside parties?
These two web sites https://grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2 and http://netsecurity.about.com/compute/netsecurity/ are a great place to start.
The first one is from Gibson Research and features a service called Shields Up. It connects you to a site via an https (secure) connection that will scan your PC for you and tell you what ports are listening and possible vulnerabilities that it finds. It then makes recommendations on how to fix them. It also has information on personal firewalls of which ZoneAlarm is one.
The second is an outstanding, all around network security information site. Much more in depth than the first site.
I can't seem to open secure web pages, what do I do?
You probably need to update to the current version of web browser you are using. To do that, go to the manufacturer's web site and download it. (NOTE: Make sure to check the system requirements because some current web browsers might not work with your operating system.) If you are still having trouble contact the manufacturer.
I am getting the error "Remote computer is not responding", and I have Windows XP and DSL what do I do?
Windows XP will sometimes disable your network card, to fix follow these steps:
1. Go to start.
2. Go to control panel.
3. Go to network connections, or network and internet connections then network connections.
4. Right click on local area connection.
5. Left click on enable.
If you can't click on enable and only disable is showing please call in to our Technical support.
The DSL light on my modem is flashing, what do I do?
The DSL light on your modem shows that you are getting a good DSL signal, if that is flashing try turning it off for 15 seconds then turning it back on. If after 2 minutes it is still flashing call our Technical support.
How do I make the "&" symbol look like an "&" symbol in my bookmarks?
Have you ever typed an ampersand (&) in the name field of a bookmark? It looks fine in the Bookmarks editor, but when you look at it in the Bookmarks drop-down list in Netscape Navigator, the ampersand becomes an underscore, indicating that you can type its first initial to go to that page. In other words, HTC Technologies with an underlined I in your Bookmarks list means you can press Alt-B-I to go to HTC Technologies. But what if you actually want an ampersand in your bookmark list? Type two ampersands next to each other where you want the single ampersand to appear.
How can I check my HTC Technologies email when I am away from home?
Go to http://webmail.htc.net and change the server drop down box to htctech.net. Then put in your email address @htctech.net and your password.
I am getting page can not be displayed. What do I do?
First, start off by power cycling your DSL modem (and router), power cycling is just the process of turning your DSL modem off (and router) leaving it off for about 15 seconds then turning it back on.
Westell wirespeed:
Once you power the modem back on wait for the Ready light to go solid green before you try and access the internet. If you have a router wait for the ready light to go solid green on your DSL modem before turning your router back on.
Speedstream:
Once you power the modem back on wait for the DSL light to go solid green before you try and access the internet. If you have a router wait for the DSL light to go solid green on your DSL modem before turning your router back on.
If your still getting page cannot be displayed, please call the Technical support for more troubleshooting.
How do I filter SPAM (unwanted email)? Can I do that from my desktop?
HTC Technologies offers a free Spam filter with your internet service, which you can setup at filter.htc.net. If you don't know your password contact customer support for assistance.
How do I decompress a zip file?
When you go out on the Internet and FTP files, you'll notice that many files are compressed, or "zipped" (recognizable by their ZIP extension). We won't get into the technical details of file compression, which uses sophisticated means to reduce files to their smallest possible size. What you do need to know, however, is that most compressed files must be decompressed before they're usable. In its compressed form, a file is really only good for storage and transferring. The exceptions are compressed sound and graphic files, which you can hear or see without running a decompression program (Netscape Navigator automatically decompresses them, in fact).
So, in order to decompress files that require it, you must use a compression/decompression utility. One of the best is WinZip, which is found on our Software page.
What is Virtual Web Hosting?
Web Hosting is the most cost effective way of having your web site on the Internet. Through our high-speed Internet connections and dedicated web servers, we are able to offer you a place to store your web site where it can be reached 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Additionally, through the use of your own Domain Name (ie, www.YOURWEBSITE.com) you can maintain the prestige of having your own internet address (so as not to suggest that you are using a web-hosting provider). Since email can be addressed to your domain name, you'll never have to change email addresses again, even if you change access providers.
What is the difference between Non-Virtual and Virtual web hosting?
The main difference between non-virtual and virtual hosting is the address used to access the web site. A non-virtual web site uses the domain of the host followed by your account's username, an example of a non-virtual web site address is: http://www.webstorage.com/~classic. A Virtual web site has its own domain name for an address, such as http://www.YOURSITE.com/.
